Bühler says international workforce strategic to success

She added that “keeping up with the pace of change” is important. While artificial intelligence and machine learning can be seen as replacing the need for more people along the food processing value chain, she said that ensuring “soft skills”, such as communication skills, are of a high standard is vital.

Milling schools are playing an important role in upskilling people at a grassroots level, with the African milling schools, in particular, being instrumental in creating jobs and capacity-building.
